Top Sicilian producer Planeta is constantly seeking new sites to push the boundary of winemaking on the island. Frappato is a classic Sicilian grape which had fallen into disrepute as producers chased richer, riper reds, but it is now enjoying a resurgence as winemakers look for lighter and more elegant styles, and increasingly seek to explore the rich heritage of forgotten grapes. Frappato performs best in the Vittoria region, in the South of Sicily. This is a very pretty wine, with ripe cherry notes and a hint of almost balsamic acidity.
